Chantico Inn & Suites

Full Disclosure, I'm getting a discount for our next stay with a 5 star review, but I would have given our stay 5 stars regardless. Wanted to book a last minute getaway in Ojai and settled on Chantico Inn because it was the most reasonable in price and the location was excellent. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is dated but has a very unique charm that we thought was nice. Our favorite part was that it was walking distance to almost everything we did during our trip, which was very convenient. Will definitely be coming back next time we're in Ojai.

The young lady who checked us in was very pleasant, but the had only been there a week. We were initially assigned a queen room, but I went back to the desk to say I had booked a king bed. She called her boss, who after a five minute conversation agreed to an "upgrade" to a king room with hot tub. Where to start. The king bed was a king bed frame with a queen mattress on it, which made it dangerous to get in and out of. See photo. We stuffed pillows into the gaps to make it less risky. The room was small, there was nowhere to hang clothes, i.e. no closet at all. The chairs were dirty, the sink was mildewy and in drought stricken central CA the faucet dripped. The outside of the building was filthy, dust and dirt everywhere and plastic plants in pots. This was an old, small motel that is pretending to be nice. The only way there are any people there at all is that they offer a 20% discount on future stays if you give them a 5 star rating. As if we would go back.

My wife and I drove up from San Diego for our friends wedding. We had booked our reservations at least six months prior. Initially, the front desk told us that they did not have confirmation for our stay when we presented them with both digital and paper receipt of payment and confirmation, they looked at us blankly? The particular suite that we had reserved had been rented to someone else, and the on-site manager told us that there’s nothing that she could do about it? Definitely a horrible experience! Room reservation was not honored, and we were placed into a rear vacant room with a leaky vanity faucet and a faulty flickering light. The room they gave us was adjacent to the housekeeping, laundry room with the door, propped open and utility cards stacked all the way into the walkway pretty much limiting our access into our unit. When we inquired the next day as to when the the suite that we had reserved would become available, the manager did not respond to us immediately, and eventually told us that there’s nothing that the owner was willing to do for us. However, she did advise us that we could go and stay somewhere else. WOW!!
